Utah dad and daughter killed in freak accident, bulldozer flies off tow truck, crushes car

A devastating incident in Ogden Canyon resulted in the deaths of a father from Utah and his 16-year-old daughter after their pickup truck was hit by a bulldozer in mid-air.

According to reports, Richard Hendrickson, the CEO of Lifetime Products, was driving with his wife and three children when a tow truck carrying a mini bulldozer lost control and crashed into their car.

Hendrickson and his daughter Sally were killed at the spot. The rest of the passengers survived.

The family was traveling up a narrow two-lane road in Ogden Canyon in eastern Weber County, Utah when the tragic accident occurred on Saturday, July 6.

The Department of Public Safety reported that the tow truck transporting heavy equipment was traveling eastbound and tried to make a turn around 12:49 p.m.

As the “bulldozer broke free” from the tow truck, it was launched into Hendrickson’s westbound GMC pickup, which was towing a boat, while “negotiating a right-hand curve.”

The surviving passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Family and friends sent their tributes, calling Hendrickson a “dependable and beloved” man and a “forward-looking” individual.

We regret to inform you of the unexpected and tragic passing of our CEO and President, Richard David Hendrickson. This tragic event also resulted in the loss of one of his daughters, Sally,” Lifetime Products stated. The statement goes on to describe him as “more than just a company leader,” but also “a visionary and a friend to many in our business and the wider community.”

The organization’s founder, Barry Mower, expressed, “He was a dear friend whom I trusted deeply, and his absence will be deeply felt.”

Utah Governor Spencer Cox offered his sympathies to the family of X, stating, “Richard was not only a friend but also an exceptional leader. We are deeply saddened by his untimely death alongside his daughter Sally. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time, and we hope they can find solace and strength.”.

Governor Cox’s recent post has caught the interest of numerous individuals. A commenter expressed, “Sending prayers to Richard’s family, this is truly tragic! Governor Cox, you and your team need to take action to enforce strict regulations and impose harsh penalties on unsafe loads.”

After the unfortunate event, a request was started to ban bigger vehicles from traveling through the tight “two-lane passageway” flanked by the Ogden River and steep mountain cliffs.

By Tuesday, the petition had collected approximately 3,300 signatures out of the goal of 5,000. The petition emphasizes the importance of regulating the types of vehicles allowed on Highway 39 in Ogden Canyon. It highlights the necessity of restricting certain vehicle categories to enhance safety for all users of the road.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the grieving family.
