Advice from Roy Poole

In 1993, Leslie recalled advice from soap veteran Roy Poole: “Don’t think of the 9 million people watching. And don’t worry about your hands.” Initially puzzled by her hands, Leslie later mastered her performances, proving her ability to adapt and shine.

Tackling Breast Cancer

Leslie’s most impactful storyline on General Hospital was Monica’s breast cancer battle, which aired from 1994 to 2000. Leslie’s personal connection to the disease, as her mother had it, helped her bring authenticity to the role. She worked closely with writers and producers to ensure a respectful portrayal of the illness.

Accolades and Achievements

Leslie earned four Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, in 1980, 1982, 1983, and 1995. She also starred in the TV movie Woman on the Ledge in 1993. Reflecting on her time on General Hospital, Leslie shared how special the 1980s and 1990s were for the show, thanks to producer Gloria Monty’s magic.

A Career Defined by Passion

Leslie’s career spanned decades, earning her recognition not only on General Hospital but also in its spinoffs, Port Charles and General Hospital: Night Shift. In a 2019 interview, she shared that “interest in the material and relationships” kept her career thriving. Notably, she was the only actor on the show who never appeared on another soap opera.

Farewell to a Legend

Leslie Charleson’s death leaves a profound impact on the General Hospital family and her fans worldwide. My thoughts and condolences go out to her family and the cast. Rest in peace, Leslie.
