Airline to Allow Dogs and Cats in Cabins

Airline to Allow Dogs and Cats in Cabins

For pet owners, there’s nothing better than getting away from it all while keeping your furry friends by your side. Traveling with pets has just become a lot easier, thanks to an exciting new initiative from Virgin Airlines.

The airline announced plans to allow pets in the cabins on flights, a service that could start as early as next year. If successful, Virgin Airlines will become the first airline in Australia to offer this service. This announcement came in a press release titled ‘Cats out the Bag’, where the airline revealed its goal to be the first in the country to offer pet-friendly flights.

The decision came after Virgin Airlines reviewed a 2021 survey, which found that 85% of respondents supported the idea of pets being allowed in the cabin. In addition, 57% of those surveyed said they would fly more frequently if they could bring their pets along. The move would bring Virgin Airlines in line with several major North American carriers that already offer the service on domestic flights.

Jayne Hrdlicka, CEO of Virgin Airlines, said, “Our love for animals has always been in the Virgin Australia DNA, and we are excited about the prospect of offering Australia’s first-ever pets in-cabin flights. Overwhelmingly, our guests tell us they want to travel with their pets, and we are now on a journey to make that a reality. It’s something that commonly happens overseas and is proven to work well.”

The airline clarified that the new service would not affect the policy for assistance animals, which will continue to fly at no additional cost. Only small dogs and cats that can fit in a carrier under the seat in front of the passenger will be allowed on board. Passengers will be required to use an approved carrier, and pets will not be allowed to roam freely during the flight. A fee will apply for those flying with pets, although the exact cost has not been disclosed.

As expected, many customers had questions about how the service would work, particularly regarding allergies. Virgin Airlines reassured passengers that the airline is working on a plan to minimize any impact on those who are allergic to pets. They emphasized that strict rules will be in place to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

With this exciting development, pet owners can look forward to having their furry companions by their side while traveling with Virgin Airlines. Stay tuned for more details as the airline prepares to roll out the service!
