A Boy’s Unwavering Hope
Six-year-old Alan, an orphan, knew the sting of abandonment all too well. Left on a shelter’s steps as a baby, he clung to a dream: one day, his mother would return. Watching other children held by loving parents often left him wondering—what did it feel like to be embraced by a mother?
A Sunday Prayer
One Sunday, Alan attended church with his guardian, Nancy. Overcome with longing, he approached the altar, kneeling, his small hands clasped tightly. His voice trembled as he whispered, “Dear Jesus, they say you hear everything. Please, send my mommy to me.”
His cries grew louder, carrying the pain only a child without a family could know. Tears streamed down his face as he stared at the crucifix. “Why aren’t you answering me?” he sobbed. Nancy gently urged him to lower his voice, but Alan continued.
His gaze caught sight of a woman entering the church with her daughter. The little girl smiled shyly at him. Alan’s heart ached anew. “Jesus, look! She has her mommy. Why don’t I have mine?”
A Surprising Voice
Nancy offered quiet reassurance, reminding Alan that God’s answers often come in unexpected ways. Then, a voice interrupted. “I’ll take you, my boy. I’ve come for you.”
Startled, Alan turned. The woman he had noticed earlier stood before him, her eyes brimming with tears. “Alan, my boy! I’m here to take you home,” she said, her voice breaking.
An Unexpected Reunion
Nancy held Alan protectively. “Who are you? How do you know his name?”
The woman stepped closer. “I’m Annette, Alan’s mother. I left him at the shelter six years ago. I’ve watched him from a distance ever since. Today, I couldn’t stay away any longer.”
Annette reached into her purse, pulling out an old photo of herself as a teenager holding a newborn. Her story spilled out through tears. Forced by her parents to abandon Alan as a baby, she had carried the weight of that decision ever since.
A Mother’s Redemption
Annette explained how her life had unfolded. As a pregnant 16-year-old, she faced heartbreak and rejection. Her parents gave her an ultimatum: give up the baby or lose everything. She chose to leave Alan at the shelter, a decision that haunted her. Over the years, she rebuilt her life, married, and found stability. Yet, she never stopped visiting the church, hoping to catch a glimpse of her son.
“Hearing him cry out today, I couldn’t walk away again,” she said, her voice breaking. “I need him in my life. I want to take him home and make up for lost time.”
A New Beginning
Nancy, stunned by the revelation, looked at Alan, who clung tightly to her. Annette’s tearful plea resonated deeply. Though the road ahead would be uncertain, it was clear to everyone in the church that a profound moment of healing had begun.
