Dog the Bounty Hunter’s 13-Year-Old Stepgrandson Fatally Shot by His Father in Tragic Accident

Duane “Dog” Chapman’s stepson, Gregory Zecca, allegedly shot and killed his 13-year-old son, Anthony, in what police are calling an accidental shooting.

The incident happened on Saturday, July 19, at an apartment in Naples, Florida, according to TMZ. Police responded around 8 p.m. and confirmed it was an “isolated incident.” No arrests have been made.

Dog, 72, and his wife Francie Chapman — Zecca’s mother — released a statement through a rep, saying, “We are grieving as a family over this tragic accident and ask for continued prayers as we mourn the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony.”

Gregory Zecca is Francie Chapman’s son from a previous marriage. Francie and Duane “Dog” Chapman married in 2021 after bonding over the loss of their former spouses. Dog’s fifth wife, Beth Chapman, died in June 2019 at age 51.

TMZ reports that Zecca works with Dog on his bounty hunting team.

Dog, 72, is the father of 13 children. He shares son Christopher with Debbie White; Duane Lee II and Leland with ex-wife Fonda Sue Darnell; and Wesley, James Robert, and the late Zebadiah with ex-wife Anne Tegnell. He also has Tucker, Lyssa, and the late Barbara with ex-wife Lyssa Rae Brittain. With his late wife Beth, he had daughters Bonnie and Cecily and son Garry per PEOPLE.

In 2023, Dog revealed that he had recently discovered another son, named Jon.

Duane “Dog” Chapman, widely known as Dog the Bounty Hunter, is a reality TV star, bounty hunter, and former bail bondsman. Born on February 2, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, Dog rose to fame with his hit A&E series Dog the Bounty Hunter (2004–2012), which followed him and his family as they tracked down fugitives. Known for his tough demeanor, signature blonde mullet, and heart for redemption, Dog became a pop culture icon.

Over the years, Dog has appeared in several spinoffs, including Dog and Beth: On the Hunt and Dog’s Most Wanted. His personal life has been marked by both triumphs and tragedies, including the death of his fifth wife, Beth Chapman, in 2019. Dog has 13 children from multiple relationships and married his current wife, Francie Frane, in 2021. Beyond TV, he’s authored books and remains an outspoken advocate for criminal justice and second chances.
