Incident Overview
On Saturday, June 14, 2025, at approximately 2:18 p.m., 12-year-old Abigail “Abby” Gillon and her best friend, 11-year-old Isabella “Bella” Jones, were riding a shared electric scooter near the intersection of Lehr Boulevard and Concord Road in Aston Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The girls fell from the scooter and were struck by a passing vehicle. Both sustained critical injuries and were transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware. Tragically, Abby succumbed to her injuries on June 16, 2025, at 2:28 p.m. Bella remains hospitalized but is recovering.
Investigation and Legal Status
The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. As of now, no criminal charges or citations have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing, led by the Aston Township Police and the Delaware County Accident Reconstruction Team.
Community Response and Advocacy
In the wake of this tragedy, Abby’s family and community members have initiated a legislative effort known as “Abby’s Law.” This proposed law aims to regulate the use of electric scooters in Pennsylvania, including mandatory helmet requirements and age restrictions, to enhance rider safety.
Memorial and Organ Donation
Abby was an honor student at Ridley Middle School with a passion for swimming and cheerleading. In a final act of generosity, she donated her organs, saving the lives of other children. A memorial service was held at Ridley Middle School, where hundreds gathered to honor her memory.
